This episode of our Bookish Talk is a bit unusual because we have a guest. Rachel Ward-Sale is an award-winning bookbinder with many years of experience and the current president of the Designer Bookbinders.
Every year six Designer Bookbinders’ Fellows each bind one of the six titles shortlisted for the Booker Prize for Fiction. Designed and completed in 4-5 weeks, these bindings are presented to the authors on the night of the Booker award ceremony.

Designer Bookbinders UK Competition Becomes Biannual and Widens the Scope of the Admissible Projects
As it appears, the interest in the competition had steadily declined over the past few years, so Designer Bookbinders decided to introduce some changes and make the competition into a biannual event.
Winners of the second OPEN • SET competition were just announced by the American Academy of Bookbinding, as well as the participants of the moving exhibition that tour the US throughout the next year.
