Newspapers Used in Cover Design? Sometimes It Is Quite Fitting

This album is a collection of newspaper cutouts with cartoons by the Dutch artist Jo Spier. From 1924 to 1939, he worked in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf and authored a plethora of illustrations about everyday life.

Quite fittingly, the owner decorated the covers of the album with multiple newspaper cutouts. Simultaneously, this gives us a chance to see what happens to the newspaper material of more than a half-century of exposure to the elements as book covers are almost always more weathered than the insides of books.
