Apprentice’s Notebook by Elbel Libro

Elbel Libro presented a new project during this Boekkunstbeurs, and that’s one of the few new things I brought home this year. This is an edition binding project with only 20 copies made, all in a black covering material. And with that has this beautiful moire. All books are numbered, and letters on the covers are in different colors for different copies.

The notebook has a two-page tutorial at its end, describing how it was made. There’s also a short comment from Roderick Cornelissen – Ben Elbel’s apprentice who has made these notebooks.

This notebook is an example of fine work. And the tutorial is an excellent idea. As it often happens, Ben adds an educational twist to his studio’s projects.
