Les Amis de la Reliure Originale is an association that promotes design binding in France. For 26 years it organizes an annual Ephemeral Exhibition to bring together the best French and European professional bookbinders.

The participants are chosen through a rigorous selection process. Every one of them is unique in some way. The event is considered the most important in the field of bookbinding in France: each of the bookbinders comes in person to present their last five or six works.

For bibliophiles, it’s a chance to talk directly with the artists, to examine the quality of their work, and to consider the possibility of giving them orders. But the window of opportunity is quite narrow: the event takes only one evening. This year it is scheduled for this Thursday, the 3rd of October.

This year among other participants you will meet Sol Rebora, a bookbinder from Argentina, who just received a commendation from the American Academy of Bookbinders during the OPEN • SET competition. You can read more about that here.
